Fraternity - It’s too common for teenagers to feel isolated or alone. Our goal is to give teenagers a safe space to feel welcomed, heard, and feel part of a larger community that cares for them. We host Social Nights a couple times a semester that help us grow in fraternity as well as other fun activities and parties.
Eucharistic - We celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass together each week and encourage all our teens to take an active role in the liturgy as a minister. We also host two evenings of Eucharistic Adoration each year.
Service - Because of our Eucharistic foundation and focus on fraternity, a natural progression is to live out the Gospel mission of serving the poor. Through various service projects we try to complete each corporal work of mercy and our largest project is a summer mission trip.
Education - Growing into faithful disciples of Jesus Christ is the primary goal of our Youth Ministry program. Twice a semester we host a series of Life Nights that focus on different aspects of our Catholic faith. These are not classes like in school; rather, they are focused conversations with games and other activities to help the teens grow in their knowledge of the faith and a safe space for them to ask questions. We also host an Issue Night at least once a semester that is led by a teen (or group of teens) where they pick the topic of conversation and lead a discussion.
When and Where? Our youth group meets every Sunday (September-May) from 7:00-8:30pm in Unity Hall (basement of Church). You can enter through the glass doors off Sunnyside in-between the Church stairs and rectory offices. During the summer months (June-August) we only gather on certain Sundays for special outings (beach day, Navy Pier, hiking trip, etc.).
What goes on at a regular Sunday gathering? Each night begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 7:00pm. Following Mass we have our scheduled program for the night (Life Night, Social Night, or Issue Night) ending at 8:30pm. We have beverages and snacks at each gathering.
Who can come? Unless otherwise stated, our youth ministry is open to all high school teenagers who want to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. No one is expected to come every week. Come when you can! This is not a club with requirements…we are a group of young disciples with a desire to serve Christ in others!
