Sacrament of Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first and foundational sacrament in the Church. It is through the Sacrament of Baptism that we become members of Christ’s Mystical Body, and it allows us to receive the other Sacraments of the Church. Baptism is available to all who have not yet been baptized into a Christian Church through the pouring/immersion of water and the words: “I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” The Catholic Church recognizes the baptisms of other Christian denominations who meet these standard and ancient criteria.
Infant Baptism Information Parents who want to have their child(ren) baptized into the Catholic Church here at St. Edward should call our parish office at (773) 545-6496 to make arrangements. We are thrilled to welcome your child into the Body of Christ in our beautiful and historic church! To help the parents of our youngest Disciples of Jesus, we require a Baptismal Preparation session to be completed before the child is baptized.* This is an important opportunity to learn more about the Sacrament, to discover the many ways our parish supports young families, and to offer practical ways you yourself can help your child grow in virtue as his/her first teachers of the faith. The clergy of St. Edward administers infant baptisms on Sundays at noon.
Non-Infant Baptism Information (older children, teens, and adults)If you are an adult (age 18+) who is looking to be baptized into the Catholic Church, please contact Fr. Dominic at[email protected]for information on our Making Disciples program that prepares adults who want to become Catholic. If you have or are a child between the ages of 7-14 and want to be baptized, please click here for information on our Family Faith Formation program. If you are in High School and seek to receive Baptism, please contact Paul Minarik, our Youth Group Leader, in the rectory or e-mail him at [email protected].
